Amazon is reported to be in talks to acquire Decart for around $7 billion. Terms and regulatory review are undisclosed, and neither company has confirmed it.
Decart builds real-time generative models: Lucy for video and Oasis for simulation. The distinguishing characteristic is latency - these are models designed to generate frames as fast as they are consumed, which is a different engineering problem from producing a finished clip and a different product from Runway, Higgsfield or Sora.
The detail that makes it worth attention: Anthropic reportedly negotiated a roughly $6 billion deal for the same company in September and dropped it. A second buyer arriving a month later at a billion dollars more says something about either the asset or the competition for it, and the reporting does not say which. If Amazon closes, it brings real-time video generation inside AWS - which is a more interesting outcome for anyone building on it than a standalone product would have been.
