THE SHORT VERSION
● Investor day: today, 14 October, at Anthropic's San Francisco headquarters. Invited institutional investors question executives directly.
● Target valuation: $1.8–2 trillion, per figures circulating among potential investors.
● Timing: official marketing could start the week of 9 November, with trading targeted before Thanksgiving on 26 November. Plans may change.
● The context nobody is putting in the headline: US IPOs this year are averaging about -4%, and OpenAI has reportedly delayed its own listing.
Anthropic is holding a pre-IPO investor day today at its San Francisco headquarters. The format is the usual one for a listing of this size: invited institutional investors get direct access to executives before the formal process begins. Bloomberg reported the plan, citing informed sources.
The number
The figure circulating among potential investors is $1.8 to $2 trillion. If it holds, the offering would match or exceed SpaceX's record listing.
Two things are worth separating here. A valuation target discussed ahead of an investor day is not a price. It is an anchor set by the company and its advisers, tested against what institutions say in rooms like today's, and revised before anything is marketed. The gap between the first number reported and the price a stock actually opens at is routinely large in both directions.
The timeline
| Stage | Timing |
| Pre-IPO investor day | 14 October 2026 (today) |
| Official marketing could begin | Week of 9 November |
| Trading targeted to begin | Before 26 November |
That is a compressed schedule — roughly six weeks from today to a trading debut. It is achievable for a company of this profile, and it is also the first thing that slips when conditions turn.
Why the market backdrop matters
Anthropic would be listing into a year that has not been kind to new issues. Excluding SpaceX and SK Hynix, recent US IPOs carry a weighted average return of about -4%, against roughly +12% for the S&P 500 and +20% for the Nasdaq 100. Buying the index beat buying new listings, comfortably.
Meanwhile OpenAI has reportedly delayed its own IPO. Earlier reports had it planning to raise at least $30 billion at around a $1.4 trillion valuation. One of the two largest frontier labs stepping back from the window while the other moves toward it is the interesting part of this story — far more so than the trillion-dollar headline.
WHAT WE ARE NOT REPORTING
Revenue and loss figures for Anthropic are circulating from documents described as obtained by media, and the versions in circulation contradict each other by an order of magnitude on the loss line. We are not publishing those numbers until a primary filing or a named outlet with the document stands behind a single figure. If the IPO proceeds, an S-1 will settle it.
What to watch next
Whether marketing actually starts the week of 9 November. That is the first checkable commitment in the schedule. Slippage there is the clearest early signal that the Thanksgiving target is gone.
The S-1, whenever it lands. It will carry audited revenue, losses, compute commitments and customer concentration — the four things that decide whether a $2 trillion anchor survives contact with the numbers.
Whether OpenAI moves. If Anthropic prices well, the delay becomes a timing choice. If it prices badly, it becomes a good call.
