THE SHORT VERSION
● Revenue — about $16.3B in H1 2026, against $1.1B a year earlier

● Operating loss — nearer $8.7B once those charges come out
● Cloud obligations — about $450B over 7-10 years, mostly non-cancelable
Anthropic is expected to file its S-1 as soon as today. The draft prospectus reports first-half 2026 revenue of about $16.3 billion, against roughly $1.1 billion in the same period a year earlier — close to fifteenfold growth. The number that will lead most coverage is the $80.7 billion net loss, up from $13 billion.
That number misleads, and the prospectus says why. About $72 billion of it is non-cash accounting charges tied to convertible notes and similar instruments. Strip those out and the loss is nearer $8.7 billion — still large, but a different kind of number entirely. Compute and infrastructure spending ran about $9 billion in the half, against $2.3 billion a year earlier.
The commitments are the part worth reading twice. Future cloud payment obligations total roughly $450 billion over seven to ten years, mostly non-cancelable, and could reach $750 billion if pending hardware deals are finalised. About a fifth of revenue comes from just two customers. And in its risk disclosures, Anthropic states that catastrophic AI-related damages may be so large that it cannot obtain sufficient insurance — a sentence no AI company has previously put in a filing. Valuation talk ranges from $1.8 to $2 trillion among some Wall Street banks, about $1.5 trillion per Reuters sources, and about $150 billion from independent analyst New Constructs. Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs are expected to lead.
