Speaking at TechCrunch Disrupt, Replit chief executive Amjad Masad said the company has moved away from Anthropic, citing cost and adding that "ChatGPT is better now". A source told TechCrunch the partnership is in fact continuing.
Both can be true. Replit added OpenAI as a provider in August, so the practical change may be a shift in default routing rather than a termination — the sort of thing that reads as a switch from the stage and as business as usual from the contract.
The cost point is the one with legs regardless of who is right about the relationship. Coding agents burn tokens at a rate chat never did, and any company reselling agent output at a fixed subscription price is exposed to its model vendor's pricing in a way that gets uncomfortable fast. Accenture capping Claude spend at $29 per employee per month this week is the same pressure from the buyer side.
Anthropic has not commented publicly on the remarks at publication.
