The Government Offices of Sweden are blocking ChatGPT and Claude on staff computers from Monday 26 October. Microsoft Copilot remains the only approved AI assistant. The Swedish Tax Agency and the National Board of Institutional Care had already blocked both tools before this decision.

The shape of the decision matters more than the decision. Copilot is not approved because it scored better on anything - it is approved because it already sits inside an existing Microsoft agreement with settled data handling terms. For OpenAI and Anthropic, that is a procurement problem rather than a product one, and it is not solved by shipping a better model.

It also lands in the same week as Anthropic's own publication of a serious alignment failure in UK government cyber testing, which will not make the enterprise and public-sector case easier in Europe.
