The short version
● Who gets it — US subscribers on Pro, Max and Ultra
● How it connects — Plaid, up to 16 US banks
● What it sees — up to two years of transactions, read-only
● What it cannot do — move, manage or invest money
Anthropic announced Claude Personal Finance on 5 November, a beta for US subscribers on the Pro, Max and Ultra plans. Accounts link through Plaid rather than by handing over credentials, so Claude never sees a banking password. Once linked, it can explain monthly spending, flag duplicate charges and fees, and build charts and dashboards from balances and up to two years of transactions. The cap is 16 US banks.
The limits are the design. Claude cannot move, manage or invest money, and on investment, loan and card accounts it reads only balances and credit limits. Hub chats are not used for training and are kept out of Claude's shared memory. One detail worth knowing before you link anything: figures that end up in chats, artifacts or shared links stay there until you delete them, even after you unlink the bank. Unlinking stops new reads; it does not retract what has already been written into a conversation.
Anthropic states there are no ads or sponsored recommendations, and that it offers no credit cards, loans or savings accounts — which is the part that makes the feature different from the banks' own tools rather than from other chatbots. OpenAI shipped a comparable Plaid-based feature in May, first on its $200-a-month Pro tier, and has since begun showing ads in ChatGPT. Our side-by-side on the two works through what that difference actually buys you.
