730 AI Films From 60 Countries Were Judged in Tokyo. Two Tools Dominated the Entries.

The second AI Film Festival Japan closed in Marunouchi on 2 November with more than 730 submissions from over 60 countries, 68 selected for screening and 21 finalists. Seedance was the most-used video tool and Suno was second for music, in the year a dedicated AI music category was added.

● The scale 730+ entries from over 60 countries. 68 screened, 21 finalists.
● Most-used video tool Seedance, from ByteDance.
● Second for music Suno, in the year a dedicated AI music and score category was added.
Festival entry data is one of the few places you can see which tools creators actually finish work with.

Tool popularity is usually measured by funding rounds and download counts. A film festival measures something harder to fake: which tools people chose when they had to deliver a finished piece of work to a deadline and submit it for judging.

AI Film Festival Japan: what the entries show

The second AI Film Festival Japan ran from 31 October to 2 November 2026 at Tokyo Innovation Base in Marunouchi, with the awards ceremony on 1 November. The first edition was held in Tokyo in November 2025.

The tool data is the part worth keeping. Seedance, ByteDance’s video model, was the most-used video tool across entries. Suno was second for music. Entries covered narrative film, animation, experimental work and films using AI-generated music.

Why this is a better signal than a benchmark. A model that wins on a leaderboard may still be the wrong tool to finish a five-minute film on a deadline, where iteration speed, shot consistency and export control matter more than any single-prompt quality score. Festival entry data reflects what survived contact with a real production, across 60 countries at once.

The new music category judged how well AI-composed music complemented the visuals, weighting synchronisation, musical quality and emotional impact. The top award in it went to Ayano Kotakagari of NTV AX-ON. The festival’s founder and executive committee chairman is Kazunori Kurimoto.

Worth noting what the reporting does not cover: there is no published rule on AI tool disclosure for entrants. For a festival built entirely around AI-made work, how tool use is declared and verified is the question that will matter as prize money grows.

Fujitsu launches AI-driven incident response in Japan

Fujitsu announced a security service on 30 October combining AI-driven threat investigation with human expert support. A threat analysis AI system assists from the initial assessment of a cyber incident, runs 24/7 forensic investigations to trace signs of compromise, and analyses malware and suspicious URLs. Fujitsu security experts then verify and complement the AI results before issuing reports.

The published turnaround target is the concrete part: as little as one business day for threat analysis and two business days for forensic investigations. It is sold on a retainer, with expert support up to a set number of hours included in the base fee. Neither the hour count nor the price is published.

One thing the release does not say. It describes a "threat analysis AI system powered by frontier AI" and names no model, vendor or agent framework. For a security product where the buyer is being asked to trust an automated first assessment, which frontier model performs that assessment is a fair question to ask before signing a retainer.

Samsung inspects its Yokohama packaging lab

Samsung Electronics chairman Lee Jae-yong visited the Advanced Package Lab in Yokohama on 1 November, his first on-site inspection since the lab opened on 8 September. He was briefed by Hiroichi Kawahira, head of DS Research Japan, and Takashi Kariya, who heads the APL.

The lab works on wafer bonding, glass substrates and new packaging structures for low-power, high-performance AI chips. Samsung is putting in 40 billion yen over five years, about $253.5 million, with the Japanese government providing 22.5 billion yen in subsidies. The local research workforce is planned to pass 100 people by 2027.

The siting is the point. The lab sits next to its Japanese materials and equipment suppliers - Uemura for gold-plating materials, Disco for chip-dicing equipment and Resonac for the non-conductive film used in HBM. Advanced packaging is where AI chip performance is increasingly decided, and the supply chain for it is concentrated in Japan.

The thread running through all three

Three unrelated stories, one pattern: Japan is where several parts of the AI stack are being assembled rather than invented. The festival is a global creative community meeting in Tokyo using Chinese and American tools. Fujitsu is wrapping frontier models it did not build into an enterprise service. Samsung is a Korean company putting a research lab in Yokohama because that is where the packaging materials are.

For anyone picking tools, the festival line is the actionable one. If you are choosing a video generator for actual production work rather than demos, the distribution of 730 finished films is a more useful input than any benchmark table.
