DALL·E GPT retires today

OpenAI removes the official DALL·E GPT from ChatGPT today, announced in its 31 July release notes. Image generation is not going away — ChatGPT Images continues on every tier including free — and custom GPTs with image generation enabled are explicitly unaffected.

The part worth acting on: OpenAI recommends downloading any images you want to keep, and has not said what happens to images generated through the old GPT after today. In the absence of clearer guidance, download is the answer.

Worth separating from the API story. The dall-e-2 and dall-e-3 API models were removed on 12 May 2026, announced back in November 2025. Today is a ChatGPT product retirement only.

The rules for agents that spend money

Google published an agent payments protocol, NIST is doing concept work on agent identity and permission, and the AI AGENT Act sits in the US Senate as S.5051. All three converge on the same requirement — a verifiable record that an agent was authorised for a specific task.

The capability arrived first. Cloudflare has already shipped programmable wallets and per-request payment via x402, with over 20 companies participating, and Salesforce measured enterprise agent deployments going from five per organisation to thirteen.

And a fourth thing expires tomorrow

Claude Code weekly limits have run 50 percent above the published standard since 13 May, on Pro, Max, Team and seat-based Enterprise. It was announced as temporary and has been extended three times, most recently on 19 August. The current window closes 31 August.

The arithmetic matters: removing a 50 percent increase leaves you at two thirds of the boosted ceiling, so capacity falls by a third rather than a half. Check Settings, Usage — if your weekly bar regularly passes 67 percent, you would hit the cap without it.

Still open

  • OpenAI is ending its Cursor partnership on 12 November, citing terms-of-service concerns after the SpaceX acquisition. Anthropic has said nothing. What it means for your subscription →
  • The Pentagon blacklist of Anthropic was struck down as unlawful retaliation, though a second case remains live in Washington. What the ruling found →
  • GLM-5.3 weights were listed for 28 August after a two-week safety hold, with the flagship licence still unstated.
