OpenAI shipped a security model it rates Critical
GPT-6 Cyber scored 48.5% on ExploitGym against 32.1% for GPT-5.6 Cyber, found 81 previously unknown high-severity Firefox flaws that Mozilla has begun patching, and built working exploits for 948 Linux kernel vulnerabilities. OpenAI disclosed 304 critical Linux findings to maintainers with proposed patches. It raised the model to Critical for cybersecurity under its Preparedness Framework and limited access to vetted Daybreak Red customers. Full story, and the generation-on-generation numbers.
An outside auditor says Anthropic is building models twice as fast
METR published an independent assessment finding Anthropic likely improving capabilities on well-specified tasks at around twice its March 2024 to October 2025 rate. Its internal index shows 1.9x with a 95% confidence interval of 1.5 to 2.8x, and METR's best guess is that roughly 80% of the acceleration comes from AI rather than compute or headcount. It is also direct about the limits: Anthropic redacted much of the evidence METR found most informative. Full story.
Dropbox made its largest acquisition ever to sell storage to agents
Dropbox agreed to acquire Tigris Data for about $350 million, its biggest deal since the company was founded in 2007, and launched DBX Agent Cloud alongside it. Tigris builds localised storage centres for distributed AI workloads and had raised about $31.9 million in total, so Dropbox is paying roughly eleven times that to skip building the infrastructure itself. A ring with a screen, built for saying yes to an agent
Aina opened preorders for an AI ring carrying a screen, joystick, microphone and speaker at $399 early-bird, rising to $499, shipping January 2027. The premise is that proactive agents have to ask permission somewhere, and reaching for a phone each time defeats the point of delegating. No battery life has been published, which for a ring is the number that decides whether it gets worn. Full story.
Claude took nearly a third of UK consumer AI spending
A working paper analysing de-identified records from 14.2 million UK accounts put consumer AI subscription spending at about 1.07 billion pounds a year. Claude's share went from 7.4% in December 2025 to 29.4% in July 2026 while ChatGPT fell from 73.5% to 52.5%. By subscriber count it is still 71.2% to 27.1%, so Claude is earning more per user rather than winning more users. Full story, and what the gap between those two numbers means.
Frequently asked questions
Can anyone use GPT-6 Cyber?
No. Access is restricted to vetted customers in Daybreak Red, OpenAI's tier for exploit development and authorised security testing, through the API and Codex. OpenAI says it will widen access to all Daybreak Red customers, which is still a vetted tier.
Does METR's finding mean AI is improving itself?
METR estimates roughly 80% of the acceleration is attributable to AI, with substantial uncertainty, and is confident it did not come from scaling training compute. Widen the sample to all frontier developers and the estimate drops to about 1.4x.
Is Claude overtaking ChatGPT in the UK?
Not on these numbers. Claude closed the spending gap from 66 points to about 23 in seven months, but ChatGPT still leads on both spending and subscribers. Including estimated app store payments lowers Claude's share to 22.8%.
When does the Aina ring ship?
January 2027, by the company's own stated plan. Preorders opened 5 November 2026 at $399 early-bird, rising to $499 afterwards.
