THE SHORT VERSION
● Anthropic — S-1 expected today: $16.3B revenue, $450B cloud obligations
● OpenAI — nears up to $30B at $1.25T, led by UAE investors
● DeepSeek — about $15B at a $75B pre-money, from Chinese industrial capital
● Meta — 2026 capex guidance $135-145B, free cash flow negative $2.12B
The money story, three ways
1. Anthropic may file its S-1 today
The draft prospectus reports $16.3 billion in first-half revenue against about $1.1 billion a year earlier, and an $80.7 billion net loss — of which roughly $72 billion is non-cash charges on convertible notes, putting the operating loss nearer $8.7 billion. Compute spend ran about $9 billion in the half. Future cloud obligations total roughly $450 billion over 7-10 years, mostly non-cancelable, potentially $750 billion with pending hardware deals. About a fifth of revenue comes from two customers. The risk disclosures state that catastrophic AI damages may be so large the company cannot obtain sufficient insurance. Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs expected to lead; valuation talk runs $1.8-2T (banks), ~$1.5T (Reuters sources) and ~$150B (New Constructs). Full breakdown.
2. OpenAI nears $30 billion, privately
CNBC reports a round of up to $30 billion at a $1.25 trillion valuation, led by UAE investors. Same week, opposite method: public markets with full disclosure versus sovereign-linked private capital with none.
3. DeepSeek raising about $15 billion
Reuters reports about 100 billion yuan (~$15B) at a pre-money near 500 billion yuan (~$75B), with CATL, Tencent, Meituan, Geely and GigaDevice named. Battery makers, carmakers and chip firms funding a frontier lab directly. More.
Launches and models
- Warp Sciences launched with a $215M Series A at $865M post-money, led by Lightspeed. Founded by Kevin Weil (ex-OpenAI VP of Science) with Manohar Paluri, DJ Patil and Solomon Reisberg. Robotic labs for molecular optimisation, ~20 people
- Flapping Airplanes raised $1 billion Series A at a reported $6 billion, led by Index and Lux, to test whether advanced models can be built with far less compute
- Legora raised $550M Series E at $8.8B, led by Atreides. Reports $200M+ ARR across 2,400+ firms, company-stated and unaudited
- Hugging Face Carbon-X: a 14B open model answering DNA questions in plain English, Apache 2.0, ~50,000 base pair context, said to approach GPT-6.1 Sol internally. No wet-lab validation
Platforms
- Google Cloud announced GA of an Anthropic-managed deployment option for Claude — a day after OpenAI's models and Codex were confirmed for Model Garden. Google Cloud now sells both of Gemini's main rivals
- Chrome added Safe Browsing defences against ClickFix attacks, with expanded server-side Gemini analysis for Enhanced Protection users. Google says page content sent for analysis is not retained or used for training
Money, jobs and the bill
- Meta Q3: revenue $64.6B up 26%, net income $9.86B after a $9.89B legal charge, quarterly capex $34.91B, 2026 guidance $135-145B, free cash flow negative $2.12B. Separately ordered to pay $25B under New Mexico's Unfair Practices Act; Meta will appeal
- Barclays cutting about 5,000 jobs (~5%), with ~60% in support functions including software development, attributed to AI efficiency
- Palantir says neither it nor the US government can remotely disable NATO's Maven Smart System, per EVP Louis Mosley to Reuters. Not independently verified
- php2shell: exploitation attempts against CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619 are now widespread. Patch to PHP 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36 or 8.2.35 and restart the service
Frequently asked questions
Did Anthropic actually lose $80.7 billion?
Not in cash. About $72 billion of the reported loss is non-cash accounting charges tied to convertible notes and similar instruments. The operating loss is nearer $8.7 billion. Both numbers are from the draft prospectus, which has not yet been confirmed as publicly filed.
When will Anthropic actually list?
The filing is expected as soon as today, with a potential November listing depending on market conditions. The listing venue has not been named.
Why do the Anthropic valuations differ so much?
Because they measure different things. Some Wall Street banks have floated $1.8 to $2 trillion, Reuters sources indicate about $1.5 trillion, and independent analyst New Constructs puts it near $150 billion. The first two are placement estimates, the third is a fundamentals-based view. None is a market price until shares trade.
Is DeepSeek still the cheap option?
On price per token, generally yes — V4.1-Flash remains among the cheapest capable models. But the gap has narrowed as Claude Haiku 5.5 and Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite came down, so re-check against your actual workload rather than assuming.
Does the Google Cloud news change which model I should use?
Possibly, if your company has committed Google Cloud spend. OpenAI models and Codex can be paid for against those commitments, and Claude now has an Anthropic-managed option on the same cloud. That removes a procurement obstacle rather than a technical one — check with finance before your next model decision.
Should I still be patching PHP?
Yes, immediately, and restart the PHP service afterwards. Exploitation attempts are now widespread. The second CVE depends on state persisting inside a worker process, so a worker still running old code remains vulnerable even after the package updates.
What is the one thing to take from today?
Four organisations are financing the same compute bet in four different ways — public markets, sovereign private capital, Chinese industrial capital, and corporate cash flow — and one company just raised $1 billion to argue the bet is unnecessary. Nobody has demonstrated that the compute curve must keep bending upward.
