Two more newspapers sue
The Seattle Times and Newsday filed against OpenAI and Microsoft, alleging unauthorised use of their journalism for training and reproduction in output. Separately, authors are challenging how publishers are distributing funds from the Anthropic settlement, arguing the allocation is unfair.
Both sit downstream of the same finding: a federal court held that training on copyrighted material can be lawful while acquiring it through piracy is not. Sony and Warner sued Anthropic on that question on 28 August.
